I've been able to create a little batch file with the following simple one line of code that executes the scripts against a database.

FOR %%F IN (*.sql) DO sqlcmd -S database -i"%%F"

That is a valid approach to the problem, however it does not perform well as it opens one connection to the server for each script. The SQL Server solution performs much better and the user also obtains a detail report of the execution.
